Hello everyone! Yesterday marked the second anniversary of when I posted about my first project. Honestly, I can hardly believe that it has been two years since I began this journey!
I often feel like I haven't gotten as much done as I would have liked. As I walk by that wall that has been begging for shiplap or that vanity that has been screaming for a new coat of paint, I start to notice that I pay more attention to all of the things that have been sitting on my to-do list than I do to all that I actually have accomplished.
For that very reason I've made a promise to myself to take this time each year to go back and review all of the big things that I've worked on and congratulate myself in a way.
So lets get started!
This time last year I was hard at work making Tristan's big boy room. As difficult as it was, I said goodbye to his sweet little nursery that used to look like this...
And welcomed him to his new dinosaur room!
You can read all about it in this post here. I had so much fun putting this room together and Tristan was over the moon excited about his new space.
After finishing his room there was no time for a breather because I had to bust out Lucas' nursery!
You guys, it was not easy doing two room makeovers in such a short amount of time. Especially while pregnant! I have no idea how I did it and how I didn't completely lose my mind haha.
But my hard work paid off because this room was set and ready to welcome our new baby boy by the time he finally decided to come on January 5th! You can read about it here.
After a few weeks of being on maternity leave I started decided to start tackling a new project while the boys were down for naps. Because you know--that's what every mom does right? Just kidding, I realize that I am a crazy person and that this is the time that most moms use to take naps themselves. But creating is what makes me happy, so I went for it! Sleep deprived and all!
This hallway had been driving me crazy for awhile. It doesn't get much natural light and is something that we walk through and have to see every day since that's where the bedrooms are.
For $74 bucks I made this hallway one of my favorite spots in the house!
It's crazy how much brighter the board and batten made this hallway. And it also makes it look a whole lot prettier as you're coming up the stairs!
There's a few more before and after pics that you can see here in the reveal post.
I was still craving some more projects but we were also pretty broke since I was on leave and the hubby's job was seasonal. So I started looking around for free or next to free things that I could do and one of them was painting the guest bathroom vanity.
But painting the vanity led to putting up some inexpensive shiplap. Which led to new floors. And shelves. And before I knew it, our bathroom looked completely different!
You can see more pics in the reveal post here. This was actually a huge turning point for my little old blog. It quickly became my most popular post and multiplied my page views times 20! It was such a huge honor that so many people took interest in my bathroom makeover that I spent less than $150 on.
I have even been contacted by This Old House magazine and they plan on running it in their January 2017 issue. Can you believe it? Not sure I can.... :)
I think most interest comes from the fact that our new flooring only cost about $20. It looks and feels so much like real wood but I don't have to worry about my wild boys splashing absurd amounts water onto it (because they do!)
And it was crazy easy to install. I went through the entire process in this post.
From there I decided that it was time to give a little love to our basement. I had gone a little nuts
with a coastal theme before I had really discovered my decorating style, and I was super over it.
I thought that the best place to start was with the staircase so I added some board and batten.
The link to the tutorial can be found here. I also took off the door so that it feels more like you are walking into extra living space as opposed to a basement.
I've done a lot décor wise down there but have yet to do a full reveal. I did however show off the some of laundry room a couple of weeks ago when I talked about painting the stripes.
I still have a little way to go down here but am so excited to see all my visions starting come together!
Whew. That was a lot of before and afters!
Last year when I celebrated by one year Blogiversary I made a list of things that I was hoping to check off within the next year. Let's see how I've done.
I actually plan on doing a full master bedroom makeover next week! I'm participating in the 6 week One Room Challenge hosted by Calling it Home and I am super excited to see how it turns out.
I got the guest bathroom done and the master bathroom one will be getting done hopefully after I finish the master bedroom makeover.
Sadly I haven't gotten this done. Ended up not being high enough on the priority list!
I forgot to mention above that after I finished the bathroom makeover I spent a few weeks finally tackling the backyard. It isn't where I would like it to be, but the major things are done and next year we just need to focus on adding finishing touches.
I would post a before and after pic, but we haven't watered the grass in awhile so I'm too embarrassed to show you it how sad it looks right now!
And now for this year's list:
- Master bedroom and bathroom makeover
- Redesign our staircase gallery wall
- Install shiplap on the large wall in the basement as well as the half bath
- Finish up the final touches in the basement which include a faux wood beam, wood shelving in the laundry room, building a coffee table and giving the hubby's desk an industrial makeover.
I'll be back next week to talk about the One Room Challenge. I can't wait! :)
Have a great rest of the week!
Linking up to these awesome parties!
