One Room Challenge (Week 4): A New Table and Stenciled Fireplace

Hello my sweet friends!  No you're not going crazy--this IS my second post for today. Today is also this month's Thrift Store Décor Upcycle Challenge so you can also swing over here to check that out after this post.

As of today we officially have just two short weeks left until the big reveal for the One Room Challenge.  I'm feeling pretty good about it since most of the major items have been checked off the list.

In case you missed any of the fun so far you can catch up by clicking the links below:

One Room Challenge (Week 1): The Plans!
One Room Challenge (Week 2): A Good Start
One Room Challenge (Week 3): Board and Batten, Check!

Last week I mentioned that the board and batten is finally done but I forgot to grab a daytime picture of it.  Well folks, believe it or not I forgot to grab one this week too! You can get a tiny glimpse of it in the background of this picture!

It is amazing how much it has brightened up the whole room and I'm so happy that I finally got around to doing it.

Did you notice the big beautiful new addition sitting in the middle of the picture above?  For this month's Thrift Store Décor Upcylce Challenge I shared how I took this wood coffee table...

and turned it into a faux vintage card catalog!

It turned out just as beautifully as I thought it would and after weeks of not having a coffee table it's been really nice to have somewhere to put our feet up.

I also knocked off another big project which was stenciling the tile around the fireplace.  As a reminder it was previously just a basic off white color with dark grout.

I began by painting the tile and grout with 2 coats water-based primer sealer.  Once it was dry I gave it a coat of white chalk paint.

Then I taped up my Augusta Tile Stencil, cranked up my music and got to work!

It was tedious at first until I decided to switch from a foam brush to a foam roller.  That my friends, made a WORLD of a difference!

The end result is absolutely stunning and I can't wait to show you all in the big reveal.   I will post a full tutorial soon with some good dos and don'ts so stay tuned for that!

The two next weeks is going to be all about accessorizing and the small details, the real fun stuff!

You can hop over here to check out how the other talented guest participants are doing.  I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and I will be back next week!

  1. I thought I had seen it all, but I have NEVER seen someone stencil a fireplace-what a brilliant idea! It really does look like cement tiles...amazing idea and it turned out beautifully. :) Kristin @ Postbox Designs

    1. Thanks Kristin! I was so excited when I found it, I just wish I had learned about it sooner!!

  2. Looks great so far - excited to see the final reveal in 3 weeks!

    1. Thank you so much Nicole! I can't wait to see how it looks all put together as well!

  3. I'd a great encounter at Stove Scotland Wooden burning up range. I referred to as forward concerning the type of gas fireplace place I'd in your mind. I was handed a very reasonable quote, in addition to went later within the 7 days to see the particular insert personally. Cherished this particular, first got it, and carried out. It is extremely worth the drive through Seattle, the client assistance had been excellent via start to finish. Recommended!

I appreciate all of your wonderful comments :)
