Welcome to the 5 week check in of the One Room Challenge! Normally this is the last one before the big reveal but I JUST caught the news this morning that it’s been extended an extra week to give our friends in areas affected by natural disasters a little bit more time.
In case you’ve missed any posts so far in this challenge you can catch them all here:
One Room Challenge (Week 1): The Plans!
One Room Challenge (Week 2): A Good Start
One Room Challenge (Week 3): Board and Batten, Check!
One Room Challenge: (Week 4): A New Table and a Stenciled Fireplace
Last week I mentioned that the big items like the floors…
the board and batten/coffee table…
and the stenciled fireplace…
have all been checked off of the list! All that was left was the small details. Which I’ve completed almost none of this past week. Whomp whomp…
We still need to cut the flooring around the fireplace and install transition molding. We’ve been putting it off for so long because the hubby is terrified that he is going to mess up either the floor or break the tile. Since we’re running down to the wire we have little choice but to cross our fingers and hope for the best!
I also want to do something with the décor on our vaulted ceiling. I haven’t changed it in the past 3 years that we’ve lived here so it’s definitely time for a change. That art in the middle doesn’t go with my style at all anymore so it’s got to go!
I want to replace it with some DIY art and I think that I have a pretty good idea that involves sheets of PVC that are designed to look like embossed ceiling tiles.

So far I’ve only bought the supplies but I’m hoping that it turns out at least half as cool as I envision it will.
I also want to put up some new sconces but I haven’t decided on which ones yet. Hobby Lobby has them on sale this week and there were a couple that I had my eye on there so I’ll probably be making a trip there this weekend!
I also received a very exciting package from Magnolia last week .
These hanging metal planters are perfect for either side of the mirror that I have above the couch. Now I just need to get my lazy butt around to hanging them up….
The remainder of these next two weeks will be super busy while I wrap this up in order to shoot some awesome reveal photos next weekend. It’s usually a real struggle to photograph this area because it receives so much sunlight. However the hubby surprised me with a new camera lens this week so I’m excited to see if it helps me better capture it!
Be sure to catch the other guest participants and how they are doing in the final stretch here.
Thanks for dropping in today my friends, I hope you all have a great rest of the week!
